Finland’s container volumes grow by 7.5% in 2016

The container throughput of the 3 major ports of Finland in 9 months of 2016 reaches 1 mln TEU, which is 7.5% higher than last year.

In January-September, 2016 the leading Port of HaminaKotka increased its throughput by 13.4% on a year-on-year basis by handling 427 210 TEU. The second largest port in container traffic terms Helsinki handled 343 055 TEU which is 6.5% more than last year. The port of Rauma’s turnover dropped by 3.1% y-o-y to 197 721 TEU.

The 3 ports’ total monthly volume in September reached 112 098 TEU which is +9.1% to August, 2016 and +16.3% to September, 2015. The below table shows the data for the particular ports.

The ports of Kotka and Hamina merged under the new name Port of HaminaKotka on the 1st of May, 2011. Today it is the largest port in Finland with a 38.8% share in total container throughput of the country.
