Hill International, a US leading construction consulting company, has received a contract from APM Terminals MedPort Tangier S.A. to provide project management and supervision engineering services during the construction of a new container facility at the Tangier-Med Port Container Terminal in Morocco, announced Hill’s press release of December, 05. The two-year contract has an estimated value of EUR 5.4-6.7 mln (USD 6-7.4 mln).
The Tangier-Med Port complex is one of the largest ports in Africa. It is constructed on the Straits of Gibraltar, a central artery of global shipping with over 200 vessels a day passing through carrying trade between Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas.
“We are honored that APM Terminals MedPort Tangier has chosen Hill to assist with this important project, – said Waleed Abdel-Fattah, Senior Vice President and Managing Director (Africa) for Hill’s Project Management Group. – We are confident that our team will deliver on all expectations.”
The new container terminal will be the second operated by APM Terminals at the Tanger-Med port complex designed to serve the newest Ultra-Large Container Ships (ULCS) with capacities up to 20,000 TEUs. APM Terminals MedPort Tangier will have up to 2,000 meters of quay length and increase the Tanger-Med complex’s overall capacity to over 9 million TEUs. The facility complements APM Terminals Tangier which handled 1.7 million TEUs in 2015.
In October APM Terminals announced orders for 12 remote-controlled Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes from Shanghai-based ZPMC and 32 Automated Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes (ARMGs) from Austrian-based Künz to equip the new facility. Both orders are to be delivered at the end of 2017.
