Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) recently celebrated the completion of its terminal in Webb Dock in Melbourne, Australia ahead of schedule, announces today’s press release of Philippine’s port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI).

“This is an achievement that everyone who have helped build the terminal and invested in the success of the State of Victoria should celebrate, – said Enrique K. Razon Jr., ICTSI Chairman and President, as he addressed VICT employees and guests. – Once we start operations in January, VICT will be the most technologically advanced container terminal in the world”.

During the tour around the terminal, guests observed 5 Post-Panamax STS cranes, which arrived earlier this year. VICT will utilize the best-proven technologies and innovations for automated stevedoring operations from ship to shore to deliver unparalleled efficiencies and safer working conditions.

In 2014, VICT signed a 26-year concession with the Port of Melbourne Corporation to build, operate and expand the container terminal at Webb Dock East, becoming the third terminal operator at the Port of Melbourne.

The development goes on in phases. Phase 1, which has been officially completed now, provides one 330m berth, 23.7 hectares of yard and off-dock area with fully automated operations from the gate to the quayside to deliver an annual capacity of 350,000 TEU. Additionally, a 10 hectares empty container park for 200,000 TEU will service the terminal. Phase 2 will deliver extra container storage increasing the capacity of the terminal to 1 mln TEU by December 2017. At full development the 35.4 hectares facility will have 6 Post-Panamax STS cranes at 2 berths of 660m length and a capacity of 1.4 mln TEU.

VICT’s development will deliver a leading global standard in modern container terminal design, innovation and operations, and will become the flagship facility in Australia’s premier port, says the press release.

Headquartered and established in 1988 in Manila, Philippines, ICTSI is in the business of port operations, management and development. The company’s portfolio of terminals and projects spans developed and emerging market economies in the Asia Pacific, the Americas, and Europe, Middle East and Africa. ICTSI has received global acclaim for its public-private partnerships with governments divesting of their port assets to the private sector.
