Following the mass actions caused by the forced redundancy of the dockers of the port’s container terminal of which we wrote earlier, the transport prosecutor’s office fined Vladivostok Sea Commercial Port (VSCP) for violating the labour legislation.
According to the press service of the region’s transport prosecutor’s office, VSCP did not notify the Employment Service and the Trade Union of the mass redundancy (over 50 persons) three months in advance, as it is provided by the Russian labour law. 59 dockers of the VSCP container terminal were sacked on the 13th of September, 2016. The port was fined RUR 31,000 (about USD 480) and the port’s HR Director was fined RUR 2,000 (about USD 30).
VSCP insists the redundancy cannot be regarded as mass, because the criterion of 50 persons is outdated. On the 15th of November there will be a court hearing on the subject of determination of the mass redundancy criterion, says VSCP press service. The port plans to appeal the fines.
